Philadelphia paraprofessionals face a dilemma; either they continue to work for the school district and serve our children or face homelessness. Paraprofessionals are the lowest paid unit of the PFT. Paras reach out to government agencies for help and discover that they earn too much money for assistance. Therefore, many paraprofessionals get second and third jobs to make their ends meet. And a lot of times, paras still fall behind. They face eviction, utility shut off, and hunger; yet they faithfully come to our schools to serve our children.
The ParaPower Relief Fund is here to help fill the gap. The ParaPower Relief Fund will give a one time grant up to $500 to paraprofessionals that are in crisis.
